Hannah Yung-Boxdell (she/her) is a student in Mason’s MPS I-O Psychology program and a graduate student representative on the Psychology Department’s DEI Committee. By day, she works as the Administrative Director and Chief of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging for W-Trans, a traffic engineering consulting firm located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Hannah enjoys working at the intersection of strategy, implementation, and operationalization; motifs of her career include process improvement, performance management, and organizational transformation efforts. She's been recognized in her workplace for her advocacy, building up organizational structures to support career development, and building climates of psychological safety.
Hannah believes the human element is central to the ongoing development of organizations and the working world at large. Her scientist-practitioner approach to problem solving in the workplace and a desire to deepen her understanding around how to effectively advance change naturally led her to the field of I-O. This desire was reinforced by her early experiences introducing and advancing DEI in her organization and the challenges she faced in finding and accessing evidence-based practices, particularly those applicable to small- and medium-sized businesses.
Hannah’s practicum research project looked at the relevance of leader support behaviors on perceived team cohesion in virtual settings. Additional research interests include the benefits and potential pitfalls of job crafting behaviors for career growth.
When not focusing on school or work, you might find Hannah unwinding by workshopping a new recipe or trying to teach her pets to verbalize their desires using buttons.
