Dr. Frecknall received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 1988. Dr. Frecknall is on the faculty of George Washington and George Mason Universities. He has been teaching graduate and undergraduate psychology and communication for 40 years, and has served on the faculties of Georgetown University, New York University and Columbia University. He has published numerous articles in the fields of social psychology and psychiatric rehabilitation.

Dr. Frecknall has been an Emergency Therapist for the Arlington County Department of Mental Health for 25 years, providing crisis intervention services, treating individuals and families with emergencies ranging from psychosis to suicidality and more. He was also in private practice for 20 years. Dr. Frecknall brings this wealth of real-world experience into the classroom.  Dr. Frecknall has provided mental health and communication training for a wide variety of local and national organizations including the Arlington County Police, Fairfax County Police, the State of Virginia, the Intelligence Community, the Armed Forces and the private sector.
