Anaya Patel, 2025

Anaya Patel

Major: BA in psychology with a concentration in clinical psychology

Hometown: Ahmedabad, India

Plans after graduation: Patel plans to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology. While applying to programs, she will continue to work as a mental health counselor and volunteer for the Emotional Support Warmline.

Most impactful course: PSYC 427: Community Engagement for Social Change with Professor Lauren Cattaneo. “Both the class and professor changed my perspectives and taught me immensely as we explored how social problems arise and what factors impact them. I also had the opportunity to apply and observe the concepts we learned in class through volunteering at a nonprofit organization, where I worked with children and families who have the disadvantage of not having accessibility to preschool programs. I was able to put my passion into work as I applied and learned about the processes of social systems. “

A multifaceted undergraduate journey

As an undergrad, Patel completed an internship in clinical psychology as a mental health counselor for children and adolescents. “I am forever grateful for this opportunity and the reward that comes with helping another child and family,” she said. She also had the opportunity to staff the Emotional Support Warmline at George Mason’s Center for Community Mental Health. She participated in Mason Ke Rang, a competitive Bollywood dance team at George Mason, was a head liaison for George Mason's Bollywood Fusion Dance Competition Organization known as Tu Bhi Nachle, and advocated for mental health and the resources George Mason provides to the student body as a Peer Empowerment Program member at CAPS.
