Emmarose came to George Mason University seeking undergraduate research opportunities close to home. During their time at George Mason, they found community through Gamma Rho Lambda and developed their research skills in the Psychology Honors Program.
Their most impactful experiences came through the Psychology Honors Program and Gamma Rho Lambda. In the honors program, Emmarose spent three semesters developing and ultimately defending their undergraduate thesis, which they presented at the Association for Psychological Science’s annual convention. They note that these experiences challenged them to strengthen their research skills and think more critically.
Favorite George Mason Memory: “Joining Gamma Rho Lambda, the only queer interest sorority on campus, is my favorite memory from George Mason. Through Gamma Rho Lambda, I found a community where I could build friendships and celebrate my identity with others who shared similar experiences. It provided a sense of belonging that has meaningfully shaped my time at George Mason.”
Advice for future Patriots: “Don’t give up! Don’t feel bad if your undergraduate experience doesn’t fit the traditional four-year mold. If you have the opportunity, it really is worth it. It has taken me seven years and a pandemic to graduate, and I’m glad I didn’t give up.”
