Psychology Honors Students Showcase Research at CHSS Undergraduate Research Symposium

Our Psychology Honors students once again represented the Department of Psychology at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) Undergraduate Research Symposium this spring. Held annually, the symposium showcases the scholarly and creative work of undergraduate students across the college and highlights the importance of faculty-mentored research at George Mason University.

The CHSS Undergraduate Research Symposium provides students with the opportunity to present research projects completed through coursework or independent research under the supervision of Mason faculty members. Presentations are reviewed by faculty judges, and outstanding projects are recognized during an awards presentation following the event.

We are especially proud to celebrate two of our Psychology Honors students who received awards for their outstanding research presentations this year.

Kira Sherwood received the Excellence in Research (Poster) award for her presentation, “Discrepancies Between Parent and Adolescent Reporting of Mental Health Symptoms: The Role of Adolescent Sex and Race/Ethnicity.”

Vlera Baftija was also recognized for the Excellence in Research (Poster) award for her presentation, “Does Immigrant Advantage for Academic Outcomes Persist in High School Similarly for Black and Hispanic Students?”

We congratulate all of our Psychology Honors students who participated in this year’s symposium and thank our faculty mentors for supporting undergraduate research and scholarship. Their hard work and dedication continue to reflect the strength of undergraduate research within our department.
