Dr. Jim Maddux at the University of the Republic

University Professor Emeritus James Maddux recently returned from a trip to Montevideo, Uruguay that was sponsored by Mason's Center for the Advancement of Well-Being, where Maddux holds a Senior Scholar appointment. Maddux was invited to give a series of lectures at the School of Psychology at the University of the Republic (La Universidad de la Republica), the oldest and largest university in Uruguay and one of the largest in Latin America. Maddux's lectures dealt with the history of and current issues in clinical psychology in the United States, including the rise of positive psychology and the increasing interest in well-being. Maddux also met with the dean of the School of Psychology to discuss Mason's Well-Being University initiative and with faculty members in clinical psychology to discuss their plans for expansion of their clinical training and clinical research activities. He has been invited to return in October of 2016 for several weeks to teach a formal class or two for students in psychology.
