Psychology Alumni Highlight

In Fall of 2021, Alec Gamboa graduated with a B.S. in Neuroscience and Psychology. During his time at Mason, he worked in Dr. Tara Chaplin's Youth Emotion Lab as a full-time researcher. Gamboa was a part of two NIH-funded studies; particularly supervising the Parent-Teen Study (PAIT-II).  Additionally, Gamboa worked in Dr. Jane Flinn's lab, where he conducted cellular research with two graduate students.

As of March 2023, Gamboa accepted an offer from his dream program and school!

I am happy to announce that I will start my Ph.D. in Pharmacology & Molecular Neuroscience at Georgetown University Medical Center.

I am thankful for George Mason and faculty for the past 4 years and I look forward to this new chapter in my life.

Though Gamboa is now an alumnus, he continues to mentor students that are interested in Neuroscience and/or medicine and is a huge supporter of interdisciplinary approaches. A goal of his as a scientist is to bring both Neuroscience and Physics together and bridge the sub-fields of Cognitive and Molecular Neuroscience at an academic and research level.

“Most of my early academic journey was in Psychology, I encourage all to get out of their comfort zone and explore the cellular world.”

We are eager for you and your future, Alec! Congratulations from all of us at the Department of Psychology!
