Psychology Graduate Wears Family Heirloom

Psychology major Daniel Brooks Jr. wears a 100-year-old black wool graduation robe at the 2010 Convocation of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and George Mason University's Commencement. Following a sacred family tradition, Brooks is the 30th family member to wear the gown. The first was his great-great-grandmother, who graduated from Wellesley College on June 21, 1910.

The family heirloom was recently restored and has the name of each graduate sewn inside. Brooks is the first of his family to graduate from George Mason.

Read more about Brooks and the journey of this remarkable gown in the Washington Post, the Fairfax Times, and the Mason Spirit Blog (links to the right).
