ADVANCE is a partnership between Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) and George Mason University that is designed to help students complete their Bachelor's Degree after earning their Associates Degree.
While completing an Associates Degrees at NOVA, students are given support to help with a smooth transition to a Psychology Bachelor's program at George Mason University, including help in ensuring that they will not lose any credits after transferring. This program is open to students who wish to complete either a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Mason.
The ADVANCE program is open to students in good academic standing at NOVA (who have earned less than 30 degree credits by the time they enroll in the ADVANCE program) who plan to transfer to Mason to pursue a Bachelor's degree. Students who enroll in ADVANCE will be considered co-enrolled in NOVA and Mason, and will be given access to resources at Mason, including recreational facilities, sporting events, and meetings with academic advisors in the Psychology program who can help them to plan their degree path as they move into the program.
Students will be assigned success coaches at both NOVA and Mason who will provide them with a system of support and additional services/resources as they continue on their ADVANCE pathway. Students will be expected to finish their Associates Degree before fully transitioning to Mason.
The ADVANCE contact for the Psychology Department is Dr. Michael Hurley.
