Application Requirements

All applicants for graduate study at George Mason University must meet the admission standards specified in the Admission chapter of the University Catalog.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to review college policies for graduate certificate programs, particularly those sections relating to admissions at Applying to a Graduate Certificate Program.  

Application to Certificate Program Only

Applicants to the graduate certificate in school psychology who are not currently enrolled in a degree program in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences must submit

  • Completed Graduate Application (online).
  • Nonrefundable application fee.
  • Virginia In-State Tuition Rates application if claiming entitlement to these rates.
  • One official transcript from all previous institutions attended. Transcripts must be sent in a sealed envelope to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Graduate Admissions Office or, if an official electronic transcript, to Mason’s official email address for transcript receipt. Official Transcripts.
  • Goals statement should be a biographical statement outlining background, experience and future goals.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • GRE scores taken in the last five years. 

Applicants with international academic credentials should apply 30 days before the program deadline and must also provide

  • Proof of English proficiency: either TOEFL, IELTS, or Pearson Test of English. Please refer to the university’s English Proficiency Standards.
  • Degree certificates, diplomas, or additional transcript documentation as outlined in the university’s International Transcript Submission Guidelines
  • Applicants may supply an official international transcript evaluation from an independent evaluation agency approved by NACES or AACRAO. The WES-ICAP evaluation service includes verified academic credentials as part of the evaluation package.

Application to Certificate Program as a Secondary Program

Applicants to the graduate certificate in school psychology who are already accepted or enrolled in a degree program in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences must submit

Additional Information

All students who hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university are eligible to apply.

International students with F-1 or J-1 nonimmigrant status are advised to refer to the University Catalog's Admission of International Students to learn more about policies relating to full-time status and time limits.

Those applying to the school psychology concentration in the MA in psychology program do not need to apply to graduate certificate in school psychology.
