Professor Emeritus James Maddux Writes about South America Trip

Department of Psychology University Professor Emeritus James Maddux recently returned from a two-week trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay.  The trip was sponsored by the Center for the Advancement of Well-Being, where Maddux is a Senior Scholar.  In Buenos Aires, Maddux attended the second Latin American Congress for the Advancement of Science in Psychology where he gave a keynote address on the social and cognitive psychology of clinical perception and judgement and a workshop (with Uruguayan psychologist Vicente Chirullo) on cognitive-behavioral therapy.  He also visited the National University of Lomas de Somora outside of Buenos Aires where he gave a talk on goals and well-being to a social work class and met with several faculty members to discuss possible future collaborations. At the University of the Republic in Montevideo, Maddux gave a workshop (again with Chirullo) on cognitive-behavioral therapy and workshop on writing and publishing in English language psychology journals.  He is in discussions with contacts in both Buenos Aires and Montevideo about a return visit next year.
