Faculty Awards/Appointments/In the News
1. Dr. Koraly Perez-Edgar was cited in ‘Milestone envy pressures parents’, the Washington Times,
October 18, 2009, by Christian Toto.
2. Dr. Koraly Perez-Edgar received the Cognitive Development Society Travel Award to the meeting in
San Antonio, TX
3. Dr. Seth Kaplan contributed to a piece entitled “Where are the women?” on CNN’s “The Situation
Room!”
4. "Curiosity: The Killer Catalyst," an article on Dr. Todd Kashdan’s research, appears in the current
issue of Miller-McCune Magazine (Nov/Dec.)
5. Dr. Todd Kashdan is featured in the Washington Post Magazine, Sunday (Nov 1).
6. Dr. Todd Kashdan is cited in the November issue of First for Women magazine, as part of a
discussion of mindfulness and quilting.
7. A review of Dr. Todd Kashdan’s Curiosity appeared in Greater Good magazine.

Faculty Grants/Research
1. Dr. Robert Pasnak received $510,000 in new funding for his grant from the Institute of Education
Sciences.
2. Dr. Koraly Perez-Edgar received funding from UMD in the amount of $147,220 for an ARRA –
NIMH project titled “The effects of early temperament on social behavior in adolescence.” The total
award for GMU is $297,658.
3. Dr. Raja Parasuraman received a grant in the amount of $12,500 from Perceptronics Solutions Inc.
4. Dr. James Thompson received an extension of his project “A Neuroimaging Study of the Acquisition
of Expertise” from the US Department of the Navy (ONR). The total funding to date is $215,656.
5. Dr. Koraly Perez-Edgar received an extension of her project “UVA/Jaobs FND/ Across Cognitive”
from the University of Virginia. The total funding to date is $22,824.
6. Dr. Deborah Boehm-Davis received an extension and increment for her project “Staffed NextGen
Towers (SNT) Task” from DOT/FAA; total funding is now $139,000.
Student Honors/Awards
1. Jennifer Brielmaier has been awarded a $3,000 APA Dissertation Fellowship to support part of the
costs of her dissertation, entitled "Effect of stress on initial sensitivity to nicotine reward in adolescent
rats: role of CRF1 receptors".
